Medical Acupuncture
Your shoulder has been causing you problems for years. The pain has only gotten more acute. Doctors want to operate but there is no guarantee that the results will be favorable. They prescribed narcotic patches to numb the pain. You’re afraid of developing an addiction so you never use them. Most people would consider you to be a man’s man so you don’t typically subscribe to esoteric belief systems. When the doc suggests acupuncture as an alternative, you turn up your nose but after a few days, you reconsider. Kingston Chiropractic Services incorporates acupuncture into a comprehensive chiropractic treatment plan.
Acupuncture Defined From a western standpoint, acupuncture stimulates the body to balance itself through complex neuro chemical pathways that effect the immune, nervous system and inflammatory process. This treatment originated in the East, therefore, we subscribe to the eastern philosophy as well. It is thought that each of our organs contain a type of energy called chi. That chi travels through the body via pathways, also known as meridians. Along the meridians there are points where that energy is believed to collect. Each of those points have specific functions. By stimulating those specific points, we can effect particular areas in the body. The Power of Needles When most people see needles, they get a bit anxious. The primary question clients ask is, ‘Does it hurt?’ Quite the contrary because most of our patients fall asleep during the treatment process. Acupuncture needles stimulate the body to heal itself and relieve pain. You don’t have to concern yourself with cross contamination. We employ single use. This means that every patient will receive clean hypoallergenic needles. Every time you come in, we will use a different set of needles. Some practitioners were trained to apply the needles free hand. We prefer to use guide tubes for pain free application. What Does Acupuncture Treat? The beauty of acupuncture is that it is applicable to any area of your life that effects your well being. Acupuncture treats physical and mental maladies. We use it to treat migraines, headaches, neck and back pain, should pain, pelvic misalignment ankle and foot pain. Sciatica and other nerve diseases are eradicated with the help of acupuncture. In our practice, we view it as part of integrative medicine. Integrative medicine is a team approach to healthcare. It takes a village to raise a child but sometimes it takes a community of medical practitioners working in unison to heal a patient. Treatment Duration Patients and their loved ones question the efficacy of acupuncture because it is a relatively fast treatment. Unlike a 3-hour surgery, acupuncture doesn’t require a lot of time to be effective. A licensed acupuncturist will apply needles to the face, neck, hands, back, abdominal area, legs and feet. The location depends on the ailment. After the needles are applied, the acupuncturist will leave you to relax for about 15 to 20 minutes. During this time, patients typically fall asleep. When you awaken, the needles will be remove and it will be time to go back to your regularly scheduled programming – called life. |
